We all struggle hard sometimes.
Anxiety can show up for different people in different ways- a pit in your stomach, tightness in your chest or throat, crowded and noisy thoughts, worry and dread, fear that you’ve made a mistake or something will go wrong…and many other ways.
Anxiety often accompanies depression, which also shows up in different ways for different people. Maybe you’re still functioning in your life but things don’t bring you joy the way they used to. Your light has dimmed.
Therapy provides an opportunity to navigate whatever you’re experiencing in a non-shaming and confidential space.
It’s not because you’re weak or defective.
Our mind and body are complex systems, and so are the environments they’re responding to. Sometimes we’ve been stressed for so long that we become depressed because of the state of our nervous system. We might have needs that have been unmet for too long.
Additionally, we can internalize messages from our society, families or other surrounding social groups, or what we see in the media, that can influence how we feel about ourselves and how safe we feel in our world. We may need more close emotional bonds with the people in our lives.
And/or our bodies carry traumas from things that happened to us in the past, or things that are happening now. Or things that have happened over many generations of our families.
Fear will always be a part of life, but it doesn’t have to hold you back.
Therapy is a great way to start navigating these complex issues, while feeling seen and heard in a safe place. I’ll help you develop inner resources and identify and work through underlying traumas and patterns. Additionally, we can explore attachment styles, wider social and environmental reasons for your distress, discover the support you need, and gently get to know your inner critic and other parts of yourself as you learn new ways to help yourself. This is a collaborative process and you’ll be held through it with respect and compassion. I look forward to connecting with you!
